The program TTYASC.EXE will run on most MS-DOS machines. It will allow
you to transfer text files from almost any other machine and to almost
any other machine. It does not use any file checking protocol (e.g.
XMODEM, KERMIT) but since it is meant for hardwired transfer none is
needed. It will transfer data at up to 9600 bps and the speed is sel-
ectable in the menu of the program. The port used was COM1: so it will
transfer in and out only through this serial port. The program works well
with PIP (of all things) in CP/M at the other end. It will also work well
with terminal programs at the other end. They need only to send out the
data in proper form. Note the program does not insert the LF and CR into
text. This is the job of the sending program. This program will also send
at up to 9600 bps, although I would wonder why one would be sending such
stuff to machines such as CP/M and others. But they will accept it.
All that is needed to transfer files from one machine to another (if both
are MS-DOS machines) is two copies of this program, a null modem, and a
RS232C cable. Then connect the two serial ports (the program is set up for
COM1:) with the null modem and the cable and proceed.
